Food: Friend or Foe?

I cant help but think that in some way food has taken over our normal everyday lives, I mean is it not true that before making any decision related to food we always think about what we eat and more importantly how much of it we eat.
Some people say they eat as it's a means of comfort for them, whether this be a bar of chocolate, a hot rice pudding or even as Joey from Friends would like, a giant pizza.

After reading about how popstar Geri Halliwell had suffered from Bulimia following her departure from mega popband the Spice Girls in 1998, it really struck me that how food, which is a life saver one minute can turn and nearly take your life the next.
Halliwell had always been in the media during the early years of the Spice Girls regarding her bad eating habits, however she had always been very open about it. It wasn't until after she had left the band Halliwell's weight plummeted from a healthy 9 stone to a shocking 7 stone which nearly killed her. Even though food had turned it's back on Halliwell it was close friend and known popstar Robbie Williams who saved Halliwell from deteriorating away.

It's not just celebrities who suffer from these illnesses, however by them being open about it helps give us the public, courage to stand up and face our concerns about food. I feel we need to stop counting how many calories are in our next chocolate frappuccino and start enjoying these different foods and drinks. It's time we embraced and celebrated our individuality and stopped trying to be the next size zero figure.
